Piz Badile North Face

One of my best memories from this summer is from August when I headed over to Switzerland with @jostkobusch to climb the North face of Piz Badile.

It was a beautiful little get-away sleeping under the stars, climbing this 900 m vertical wall with incredible views across the Swiss Alps, and arriving at the summit late in the evening — meaning we had to spend the night in the emergency bivouac hut at the summit with two very friendly Italian guys. We hadn’t exactly planned staying up there and we didn’t have any more food or water left, but in the morning the Italians shared their water, bread and an energy bar with us! Small acts of kindness that make a big difference. Plus, I don’t exactly mind sleeping at 3308 m with that sunrise — even though we now had a long and gruelsome descent over the North ridge ahead of us…⁣

For those of you who don’t know, Piz Badile is known as one of the “Classic 6 North faces of the Alps.” The other north faces included on the list are Matterhorn, Cima Grande di Lavaredo, Eiger, Gran Jorasses and Petit Dru. Of course our goal is to climb all of them. One down, five more to go! Next year we’re planning on ticking off at least two more from that list. Can’t wait.
