Birthday memories
Last year I spent my birthday in the tiny village of Na 4300 m in the remote Rolwaling Valley of Nepal. @jostkobusch and I were two of the very few guests there, and the lodge owner — a Tibetan woman — baked a massive cake for me which Jost decorated with @humagel. The afternoon was spent hiking to the closest village Beding 2 hours away where we could order momos for lunch. And in the evening we had the most delicious dal bhat in this little tent. Basically a day of eating and resting loads, preparing for another long day in the mountains.
It was November the 18th 2019 and there was no reception, I hadn’t communicated with the outside world for two weeks, and whichever direction I looked the high Himalayan peaks were rising to the skies. It was perfect. A day I will remember for the rest of my life.
Today things are looking a little bit different. But that is how it is — just as the seasons change, we change, the circumstances change. But one thing that hasn’t changed is that no matter what the number on my passport says, I am still the curious little kid I was many years ago. Grateful for every day I get to be alive, and excited to find out what the future holds in store for me.
