Every run is a celebration of life
After quite a long time of not being particularly motivated to run, often feeling sluggish and tired and asking myself why I’m even doing this — it finally feels like the light switch has suddenly been turned on again. I feel like I could continue running forever, my body feels strong and my mind is calm. That feeling of flow is real. Every run is a celebration of life. Just the way it should be.
But I know that’s not always how it is. Sometimes you just don’t feel like running, and you ask yourself why you keep logging the miles — what’s the point? And even if you don’t have the answer, you still keep on going, placing one foot in front of the other.
And that’s okay — to keep going in the search for an answer. To just stay in motion. But it’s also okay to take a break. You’re not less worth just because you’re not out there logging the miles, or because you’d rather stay home and watch Netflix. Running (or any type of movement for that matter) should be fun and playful — not something you force yourself to do. If you don’t have your why in place, a couple of days of Netflix marathon and eating ice cream might be just the right thing.
That’s what I try to remind myself in times of doubt. And I know that if running is truly important to me, my why will make itself reminded again soon enough.
