If I can’t run, I’ll ride

Last Monday I was hiking down on a trail after climbing and twisted my (surgical) ankle. Nothing dramatic, but it has been painful ever since.

If there’s one thing I’ve gotten good at from going through two surgeries and years of rehab, it’s changing to another strategy when the first one doesn’t work. Not putting too much thought into it, just doing the work that needs to be done.

So this week I’ve been on my bike more than I ever have before. Today it was time for a little (big?) solo adventure to see if I could set a new bike distance PB on the bike 😁 It turned out to be a stellar day with one podcast episode in my ears in the beginning but other than that, just me and the bike and the incredible views!

Le Fayet-Megeve-Col des Aravis-Col de La Colombiere-Cluses-Le Fayet: 103 km and 2050 m D+

Col de la Colombiere

Observations of the day:

- For every woman on a bike, I saw about 10 men
- Biking longer than you ever have before makes your ass hurt
- My favorite part was the last bit up to the second pass where I got cheered on by other riders, making me feel like I was about to cross the finish line as the winner of Tour de France 😏
- Where I live is beautiful
- Your perception of distance changes dramatically when you switch from running to biking. 100 km didn’t even feel thaaat far 🧐
- I think I might be falling for this sport…
- It was nice to be reminded yet again of the fact that being a beginner is AWESOME: not really knowing what you’ve gotten yourself into or how things work. I have no idea what I’m doing 😂 but that is also the best kind of plunge into the unknown. Learning new things ftw!

Now searching for: other road biking gals out there who are keen on going on 🚲 adventures together!
